Automatic Label Rewinder/Unwinder

VOREY automatic label rewinder and unwinder solutions are designed to manage roll-fed label media before and after digital printing. The R230 supports both rewinding and unwinding modes, adapts to the operating speed of the printer and helps maintain stable roll handling throughout the printing workflow.

With a media width of 20–230 mm, a maximum roll diameter of 250 mm, a 76 mm core and a speed of up to 18 m/min, the R230 can be used as a standalone label rewinder machine or connected to a VIPColor label printer through an optional connection frame.

Roll Handling Before and After Printing

Automatic Label Rewinder and Unwinder Solutions

VOREY automatic label rewinder and unwinder solutions help manage roll-fed media around a compatible digital label printer. An automatic label unwinder supplies material to the printer, while an automatic label rewinder collects the printed web into an organized roll for the next production step.

The correct setup depends on the printer, media width, roll diameter, core size, normal line speed, winding direction and available installation space. VOREY can review these details before recommending a standalone unit or a connected roll-to-roll arrangement.

Where Roll-Handling Equipment Sits in a Label Printing Line

Start with the direction of the label web. The position before the printer is responsible for feeding media; the position after the printer is responsible for collecting it.

MEDIA SOURCE                Supply Roll
BEFORE THE PRINTER                Label Unwinder
PRINTING                Digital Label Printer
AFTER THE PRINTER                Label Rewinder

Planning note: A line that needs external roll feeding and printed-roll collection at the same time normally requires equipment at both positions. Confirm the number of units and the connection arrangement before ordering.

Label Rewinder vs Unwinder: Choose by Position and Job

Both devices handle roll media, but they solve opposite sides of the production process. This distinction should be confirmed before comparing machine specifications.

Choose the Equipment from the Roll, Not the Label Artwork

Artwork, color and label shape do not determine whether a rewinder will fit. Roll-handling equipment is selected from the physical web and the way it must enter or leave the printer.

1. Measure the complete web widthUse the full backing-web width rather than the width of one printed label.
2. Measure the largest roll outside diameterCheck the largest supply roll or completed output roll expected in daily production.
3. Confirm the core and full-roll weightCore diameter alone is not enough; the mounting arrangement must also support the completed roll.
4. Use the real production speedCompare equipment using the normal speed of the intended job, material and print mode.
5. Specify winding direction and final roll orientationExplain how the roll must enter the next process and whether the printed surface faces inward or outward.

When an External Rewinder or Unwinder Is Worth Considering

A separate roll-handling unit is most useful when it solves a clear interruption in the existing printing workflow.

Printed web must be collectedA rewinder collects output from a compatible roll-fed printer instead of leaving the operator to manage loose printed media.
The printer needs an external roll sourceAn unwinder can feed a suitable external roll after its dimensions, weight and web path have been reviewed.
The roll moves to another operationOrganized rolls are easier to transfer to a separate inspection, finishing, slitting or application process.
Jobs change frequentlyA clearly planned roll path helps operators manage short runs and repeated changes in SKU or order quantity.

Label Rewinder/Unwinder vs Label Slitting Machine

Rewinding and slitting are often mentioned together, but they are not the same operation. A roll-handling unit moves or collects the web; a slitting machine divides a wider web into narrower rolls.

EquipmentPrimary JobUse It When
Rewinder/UnwinderFeeds or collects the complete label webMedia must enter or leave a compatible printer as a roll
Slitting MachineCuts a wide web into narrower finished rollsThe required finished-roll width is narrower than the printed web

For jobs that require narrower finished rolls, review VOREY's label slitting machine separately.

Plan the Complete Roll-to-Roll Workflow

A rewinder or unwinder should be selected together with the printer and the next finishing step. Matching only one machine can leave problems at the media inlet, outlet or finished-roll stage.

FAQs About Automatic Label Rewinders and Unwinders

What does an automatic label rewinder do?

It collects roll-fed output after printing and winds the web onto a core. The completed roll can then move to a suitable downstream process.

What does an automatic label unwinder do?

It supplies roll media to the inlet of a compatible printer. Roll dimensions, weight, speed and web alignment should be checked before installation.

Can one unit be used for both rewinding and unwinding?

This depends on the equipment design. A dual-function model can be configured for either job, but one unit occupies one installation position at a time. A simultaneous before-and-after arrangement may require two units.

Will a label rewinder work with any digital label printer?

Compatibility should not be assumed. The printer model, web path, media width, roll diameter, core, operating speed, winding direction and available space must be reviewed.

Does a label rewinder also slit the printed roll?

Not unless slitting is specifically built into the selected equipment. A standard rewinder collects the web; a dedicated slitting machine divides it into narrower rolls.

What information is needed before requesting a recommendation?

Provide the printer brand and model, web width, roll diameter, core diameter, approximate roll weight, normal speed, winding direction, material and intended equipment position.

Find the Right Roll-Handling Configuration

Tell VOREY what printer you use, where roll handling is required and the dimensions of your media. The team can then review whether you need rewinding, unwinding or equipment on both sides of the printing process.
